SPECIAL FEATURES OF MEMBER AGENCY
Lake Bard was named after Calleguas MWD's first board president and the district's first director on the Metropolitan board. The lake holds 10,500 acre-feet of water.
Calleguas has four hydroelectric power plants in operation.
It will eventually
have a total of five
power plants. It has
140 miles of pipeline
ranging from 96-inch to 16-inch diameter.
To insulate its service area from drought and natural disasters, the district is developing conjunctive use facilities in the North Las Posas Groundwater Basin. The project will include the installation of 30 dual-purpose, injection/extraction wells that will allow for the storage of up to 300,000 acre-feet of imported water.
Calleguas has begun construction of the Salinity Management
Pipeline (SMP). Once complete, the SMP will facilitate treatment
of brackish groundwater by Calleguas purveyors by providing
a discharge for brine concentrates and treated wastewater. Ultimately
the pipeline and purveyor treatment facilities are expected
to generate 40,000 acre-feet annually in local water supplies.
