SPECIAL FEATURES OF MEMBER AGENCY

The City of Compton has a gross acreage of approximately 6,720 acres (10.5 square miles) of which the Compton Municipal Water Department serves approximately 4,998 acres (7.81 square miles). Other purveyors serve the remaining 1,7722 acres (2.69 square miles).

The City is one of the original members of the Metropolitan Water District and imports water from MWD through three connections located strategically throughout the City. There are approximately 14,500 service connections in the system. The existing system has five active wells and a sixth that is inactive, four three million-gallon steel reservoirs and approximately 163 miles of four- to 24-inch diameter pipes. The City participates with the Water Replenishment District in groundwater management.
