Professional and community activities:
Cynthia Kurtz has held numerous positions in the public and non-profit sectors, including city manager for the city of Pasadena, interim city manager for the cities of Covina and Santa Ana, chief operating officer for River LA, and president of the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership.
Kurtz served as an adjunct professor in the University of La Verne graduate program for public administration where she taught public and nonprofit ethics and collaborative decision making. She previously penned a weekly column on businesses, jobs and the economy for the San Gabriel Valley Newspaper group.
She serves on the advisory board for Leadership Pasadena and sits on the capital campaign cabinet with her husband, Jim McDermott, for Villa Esperanza Services.
